INDIANAPOLIS — Disciples Church Extension Fund has named Rev. John Powell, M. Div. its Interim President and CEO.
Rev. Powell has over 30 years of bi-vocational experience in ministry and commercial banking, including strategic planning, lending, and corporate mergers. In his new role, he will guide the organization through transition as the Board works to call the next new President and CEO.
“Rev. John Powell possesses the gifts and graces that will serve the mission of Disciples Church Extension Fund well during this season of transition,” said Board Chair Martha A. Brown. “The expertise that he brings to this ministry and its partners will continue to grow the organization and the whole church.”
Rev. Powell is a past board member and has served as interim pastor and lead pastor in multiple congregations. He has also served as Moderator and Vice Moderator of the Capital Area Region and on several regional committees. He is currently serving as the pastor of Burgin Christian Church (DOC) in Burgin, KY.
“I am honored to be able to serve the Church in this capacity,” said Rev. Powell. “I have witnessed the dedication the staff has to the mission and look forward to guiding their work until a new leader is called.”
Rev. Powell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Transylvania University, attended Lexington Theological Seminary, and holds a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) from Wesley Theological Seminary.
