{"id":6760,"date":"2025-11-05T15:56:25","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T20:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/disciplescef.org\/blog\/?p=6760"},"modified":"2025-11-05T15:59:02","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T20:59:02","slug":"how-maintain-your-place-worship-during-autumn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/disciplescef.org\/blog\/how-maintain-your-place-worship-during-autumn\/","title":{"rendered":"How to maintain your place of worship during autumn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the leaves change colors and the days get shorter, you\u2019re readying yourself for fall, but are you readying your faith community\u2019s facilities as well?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With our help, your congregation will be prepared for the change in seasons and the colder weather to come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are our ministry\u2019s seven tips:<\/p>\n<h3>Service and maintain your heat source.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Check furnace filters when you change from cooling to heating.<\/strong> Replace them quarterly\u00a0or according to the manufacturer\u2019s recommendation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consider installing programmable thermostats. <\/strong>They allow you to keep your sanctuary, fellowship hall, and other structures cooler when they aren\u2019t in use and automatically heat them so that they are warm before members arrive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Protect pipes from freezing in cold temperatures.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Wrap water pipes\u00a0in unheated or non-insulated areas<\/strong>\u00a0with pipe insulation.<\/li>\n<li>If pipes freeze or burst,<strong>\u00a0turn off the water immediately, <\/strong>then contact a licensed plumbing contractor, photograph the damage before you begin to clean up, and contact your insurance carrier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Assess the condition of doors and windows.<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Close windows near water pipes and cover crawl space vents <\/strong>to protect exposed pipes.<\/li>\n<li>Inefficient windows and doors can leak heat\u2014make sure to repair or replace any damaged or broken ones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Address attic issues.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Seal any cracks in the attic as well as air-conditioned and heated spaces,<\/strong>\u00a0such as around heat ducts, light fixtures, and vent pipes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Install wireless temperature sensors in the attic and crawl spaces that have water heaters and\/or pipes.<\/strong>\u00a0The sensor can be set up with alerts for specific temperatures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Keep water (in all its forms) moving off the roof.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>When it comes to asphalt shingles, examine the roof\u00a0for cracking, blistering, cupping, peeling, or loss of granulation.<\/strong> Identify and repair roof damage before the rain, snow, and ice hits, it can prevent significant losses inside due to leaks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inspect scuppers, drains, gutters, and valleys<\/strong> to\u00a0ensure no leaves, twigs, and other debris have built up\u00a0to block water from draining off the roof.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Check your bushes and shrubs.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Pruning plantings close to your building<\/strong> ensures branches don\u2019t touch the exterior walls or roof, especially when weighed down by snow and ice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remove anything under the branches\u00a0that might appeal to rodents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Don\u2019t neglect parking lots and walkways.<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Fill cracks, reseal, and stripe pavement parking lot surfaces\u00a0<\/strong>every three to five years.<\/li>\n<li>With the shorter days, <strong>install or update exterior lighting to avoid liabilities. <\/strong>This is especially helpful for holiday guests not familiar with your facilities.<\/li>\n<li>In November,<strong> mark the parking and walkway edges<\/strong> so that snow clearing can be done without damaging curbs, grass, or equipment.<\/li>\n<li>If you do not have a snow removal team or contractor, <strong>hire one that will clear the snow from parking lots and walkways<\/strong> to avoid accidents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use ice melt according to the manufacturer\u2019s instructions.<\/strong> Pay special attention to how much you\u2019re spreading, over application will likely result in damage to surfaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Does your community of faith need help transitioning its building into winter?
