(Photo by Michael Whitman)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation introduced GA Resolution 1717 on Monday, July 10. <a href=\"mailto:tmctyer@newchurchministry.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrell L. McTyer<\/a>, Minister of New Church Strategies and former new church planter, spoke in support of the resolution,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFrom proclaiming the Gospel to praying for the oppressed, I have personally participated in the impactful ways churches have and continue to enhance our communities.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After the General Assembly affirmed Resolution 1717, Jolin Wilks McElroy, pastor of First Christian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m here to celebrate Resolution 1717 that celebrates new congregations.\u201d Standing beside Nglol Rahlan, pastor of Dao Blung Hlao, and members of the new church in formation in Charlotte, Wilks McElroy continued, \u201cThank you Church for your continuing encouragement of new churches among us and may they be as diverse as this world and witness to the promise of our Lord \u2013 \u2018behold I\u2019m making all things new.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To see Wilks McElroy\u2019s full statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dGtmYexfYBo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Boards of Directors of Disciples Church Extension Fund, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianchurchfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Church Foundation<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pensionfund.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pension Fund of the Christian Church<\/a> joined together to bring to the General Assembly GA-1720, Affirmation of Our Commitment to Responsible Investing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThat our church\u2019s financial ministries stand before you today with a joint resolution,\u201d Todd Adams, president of Pension Fund, said, \u201cbears witness to the strong partnership that exists between our ministries.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The three presidents of the sponsoring ministries presented the resolution.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDisciples were pioneers back when responsible investing first became a part of the faith community\u2019s consciousness back in the 1970\u2019s,\u201d said Gary Kidwell, president of Christian Church Foundation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Because responsible investing is a critical tool of stewardship and transformational ministry, GA-1720 affirms the Church\u2019s commitment to addressing social and environmental issues, continued engagement with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iccr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility<\/a>, and educating in faith-based and values-driven investments.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis resolution seeks to encourage a comprehensive understanding of responsible investing,\u201d said Rick Reisinger, president of Disciples Church Extension Fund.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The financial ministries will provide an educational program for the 2019 General Assembly addressing responsible investing in support of the Church\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<p>The General Assembly also adopted GA-1724, Resolution Concerning Carbon Neutrality. The resolution calls upon Disciples of Christ congregations, organizations, ministries and institutions to \u201caddress climate change through action and covenant\u201d through worship, study, repentance, advocacy, and rest and delight in \u201cGod\u2019s good creation.\u201d The General Assembly affirmed the resolution\u2019s challenge for all Disciples of Christ to work to reduce carbon output, to become carbon neutral by the year 2030, and to be climate positive by 2035. The resolution was brought to the floor by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christmount.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christmount National Camp and Conference Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discipleshomemissions.org\/missions-advocacy\/green-chalice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Chalice<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weekofcompassion.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Week of Compassion<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discipleshomemissions.org\/missions-advocacy\/disciples-volunteering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Disciples Volunteering<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discipleshomemissions.org\/congregations\/youth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Youth Council<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalministries.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Ministries\/Division of Overseas Ministries<\/a> (supporter).<\/p>\n<p>In support of GA-1724 and in response to requests from the floor for financial assistance for carbon reduction projects, Disciples Church Extension Fund quickly revamped its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.disciplescef.org\/borrow\/loan-types-2\/green-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Loans<\/a> offerings. From now through the end of 2017, congregations can receive up to $150,000 for qualifying greening projects at 2.99% for 5 years and 3.50% for 10 years.
